Constellations differ from other groupings of stars such as galaxies because constellations are not natural groupings; they were created by humans throughout history.True or False Question in Earth Science?
It's a lot true but a bit false. They're not natural groupings as such but, to observers on the ground, they can appear to be. Humans didn't so much create constellations as recognize them; patterns which are truly there. They somehow reminded them of various things they were familiar with, and people interpreted them accordingly. They recognized bits of animals, parts of large people and so on.
They certainly generally differ from stars within other galxies, star clusters and the like because the individual stars are usually nowhere near each other relatively speaking.True or False Question in Earth Science?
True.
It just so happens that when people look at these dots that are coincidentally positioned in a certain arrangement, that they look like certain things we can relate to here on earth.
Each of these stars have a certain ';lifespan'; that can measure up to billions of years. Once these stars die, ';Orion's'; belt will fall off.
Suppose I told you the constellation Serious has stars that range from as close a 8 light years to as far as 3100 light years. Would that give you a clue?
